Chris Parsons

Born in 1969

Chris was encouraged at a young age to start drawing and painting by reading comics and books. He had an instinctive feeling that this would become part of his life. During his school years the only lesson he looked forward to was art. Upon leaving school he enrolled at his local college to further his academic studies including A’ Level art and design.

In 1989 he decided to study an arts foundation course. This helped him to decide which artistic profession to follow, as the type of studies focused on all disciplines of art. As well as having a love of painting he had a firm interest in design, especially typography and calligraphy. In 1990 he enrolled to study graphic design and luckily for him photography and illustration were part of the college programme so he could incorporate his skills within the course.

After completing his studies in 1992 he was employed in a variety of jobs, but they did not test his artistic abilities. During that time he was commissioned to do sign writing, magazine illustrations and artwork for computer games. He was also employed in 1995, along with other artists, to design and paint murals for children’s playrooms. The work was varied and involved commissions in Spain.

In 1998 he decided to start his own business at St.Nicholas market, Bristol. As well as displaying his landscapes he was commissioned for portraits, graphic design and sign writing. Whilst having some success with his business venture he had an inclination he was in the wrong surroundings for his paintings to be appreciated. With this in mind, he approached an established art gallery in the centre of town. His work was accepted and he was delighted when they began to sell. The owner of the gallery showed them to an art agent who purchased several of his paintings to be sold in selected galleries around the country. His work was then reproduced in print form by one of the countries leading publishers Washington Green.

In 2000 he exhibited his aviation art at the Carisbrooke gallery, London, with The Guild of Aviation Artists. His work was chosen out of many artists to be highly commended. For him it was a great honour to exhibit his work alongside prolific painters including Gerald Coulson, David Shepard and Keith Woodcock.
